President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State House meeting with Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials without their Secretary General Wilson Sossion continues to draw mixed reactions.
Both Wilson Sossion and KNUT Chairman Mudzo Nzili have downplayed the former’s absence saying the union is not a one man’s show but analysts think otherwise.
Political scientist Barrack Muluka the decision not to invite Wilson Sossion to the meeting was part of a systematic scheme to portray him as a problem in the union.
“What the government is doing is called dived and rule. This is a war tactic aimed at destroying the radical person – Wilson Sossion,” Muluka told The Standard.
“Anybody who says that teachers will go back to the negotiating table and begin from zero after a long judicial process is lying,” he said.In the meeting, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) was directed to pay teachers their withheld September salaries and both parties were to withdraw all pay cases that were in court.
Uhuru also ordered TSC to initiate negotiations with teachers on a four year Collective Bargaining Agreement.
